Customers should not be bullied
The Gazette Opinion Staff

We received a letter from Cardiologists, L.C., that their doctors would be practicing exclusively at St. Luke's Hospital in the future. The letter states that should my wife go to Mercy with a cardiac event, these doctors would not treat her. We have talked with the staff at PCI Medical Pavilion (location of the cardiologists group) but to no avail.
We have allowed this bully to dictate to the city long enough. Threatening to move to Hiawatha. Regardless of the fact that the only two hospitals in town were on Tenth Street, and there would never be a hospital in Hiawatha.
Demanding we close Second Avenue, and pitching a tantrum until our gutless City Council caved in to their demands.
But these pale in comparison to the arrogance shown by PCI, St Luke's Hospital and Iowa Health Systems. We are the patient (customer) and we should not have to change our health care provider and hospital because it suits PCI. Our dollars pay their wages; we deserve the right to select the health care provider that we want.
As much as PCI continues to rant about themselves, Cedar Rapids will not be a destination medical center. We deserve better than we have received lately.
