Polanco's RBI single in 12th gives Kernels win

EASTLAKE, Ohio - Jorge Polanco singled to center with two outs in the top of the 12th inning to score Jeremias Pineda and lift the Cedar Rapids Kernels to a 7-6 win Wednesday night over the Lake County Captains.

Pineda led off the inning with a single, his third hit of the game. His three-run home run gave Cedar Rapids (57-36 overall) a 4-0 lead in the second inning.

Lake County (36-56) scored four runs in the fourth to tie the game at 5-5 and again in the eighth to knot things at 6-6. The eighth-inning run was unearned.

Alex Muren (5-1) got the win in relief for the Kernels, who play Thursday night again at Lake County. Newcomer Tim Shibuya pitched a perfect bottom of the 12th, with two strikeouts, for the save.
