Flights canceled because of fog at airport

Foggy conditions this morning prompted cancellation of five inbound flights and three departures from The Eastern Iowa Airport.
Inbound flights between 9:28 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. were canceled, while the outbound flights from 9:56 a.m. to 11:23 a.m. were canceled, said Pan Hinman, director of marketing at the airport.
“The best bet is for people to call the airline 800 numbers,” Hinman said. “That is the most accurate way for them to find out what's happening with their flight.
“If it's foggy now, that doesn't mean it will be foggy in two hours,” she added.
The numbers and other information are available online at www.crairport.org
While foggy conditions may have contributed to two small airplane crashes over the weekend, Hinman said the airport doesn't ground airplanes, whether they are commercial flights or general aviation airplanes.
“We report the conditions,” Hinman said, “and it's up to the airline or whoever (is flying) to make the decision.”
