Boys' Soccer 2012 - Players To Watch

Ryan Lynch (Iowa City Regina) - Senior midfielder will be counted upon heavily as the Regals seek a four-peat in Class 1A. Had seven goals and six assists in 22 games last season. A first-team all-stater.

Chad Gilmer (Cedar Rapids Xavier) - Versatile senior midfielder had 14 goals to help Xavier to a Class 2A state title repeat last season. First-team all-stater.

Tyler Chavez (Iowa City High) - First-team all-stater in Class 3A despite missing four games because of injury. Won a national championship last fall as part of a Olympic Development Team from Iowa. A senior.

Fernando Pacheco (Iowa City High) - Teams with Chavez for a mighty one-two Little Hawk punch. Junior also limited by injury last season, though scored seven goals in 10 games. Second-team all-state by the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association.

Ryan Hall (Clear Creek-Amana) - Senior helped Clippers to first-ever state tourney appearance last season, scoring 19 goals in 15 games.

Jack Sundermann (Cedar Rapids Washington) - Junior is the leading returning goal scorer (9) for a Warriors team that qualified for state tournament last season.

Austin Bergstrom (Cedar Rapids Washington) - Junior midfielder had six goals last season. Was part of that aforementioned national title ODP team.

Paris Martins (Iowa City West) - Team-best 10 goals last season for perennial power Trojans, filling in capably up front when standout Tanner Schilling missed the beginning of the season with injury.

Alex Troester (Iowa City West) - Senior midfielder had seven goals last season for West. Has signed to play collegiately at Drake.

Austin Reutzel (Cedar Rapids Prairie) - Another Drake signee. Defender had a goal and assist in 2011. Also part of regional ODP.
