Greenwood's parents issue statement

Michele and Dave Greenwood, parents of former Iowa football player Brent Greenwood, issued a statement through the University of Iowa sports information office today.

Greenwood collapsed of an apparent heart attack after a workout at Pleasant Valley High School and remains hospitalized. Friends on Facebook are calling for a "Wear Green for Greenwood" day on Saturday when Iowa hosts Louisiana-Monroe.

Here is the statement from his parenths:

“During this very difficult time for our family, we have been overwhelmed by the tremendous outpouring of support we have received from family, friends, the community and the Hawkeye Nation. It means a great deal to us to have so many people reaching out to us and telling us that they are praying for Brett.

"Brett continues to fight and to make improvements. We would ask that you continue to keep Brett in your thoughts and prayers, now more than ever. We also appreciate everyone respecting our family's privacy at this time.”
