Letter: Reader objects to Hugh Hewitt column

I object to the space given Hugh Hewitt in the June 18 edition ('Real world doesn't care much for ‘news' inside the Beltway”). Please discontinue guest columns which offer only vague assertions of dubious value, e.g.: 'Western Europe ... does not care much about the obsessions of Beltway politics.” How can he speak for an entire continent? What, exactly, are these ‘Beltway political obsessions'? Why does this statement matter in the least?
'The president can fire ... every political appointee he wants to fire.” This sentence isn't worth reading, it's so inane. It's impossible to imagine Hewitt being so blase were a Democratic president take this action in similar circumstances.
Hewitt suggests that politics determine if the federal government should investigate whether a foreign power affected a national election. If Trump and associates are innocent, then there's no harm to them in allowing this investigation. That Hewitt fails to note the astonishing mendacity of our president midst this article is itself disturbing. I challenge him to find another president, presidential candidate, or federal elected official of any kind who so regularly and blatantly lies than Trump. That is worthy of the ‘real world' to pay attention to, and given the seriousness of possible electoral fraud, should be noted.
In short, a person who writes about 'The Conservative Playbook” should provide well reasoned arguments with facts attached to them, rather than screeds. If The Gazette needs to find conservative voices, look harder for those who make sense. I hope not to see Hewitt again.
