A case of deja vu preceded a police chase Tuesday afternoon in Hiawatha.
A police officer was on patrol around 4:45 p.m. when he spotted a man driving a motorcycle on Emmons Street near North 10th Avenue. The officer had arrested the same man on the same motorcycle the day before, in nearly the same location, authorities said.
This time, the driver, later identified as Adam M. Lawrence, 26, of Springville, sped off, starting a police chase. The motorcycle was traveling at more than 50 mph in the 25 mph zone, but slowed before it clipped the back of a sedan near North 18th Avenue, police said.
No one was injured in the collision. The car wound up on the curb.
Hiawatha Police Chief Dennis Marks said Lawrence ran from the scene, but was located about 15 minutes later when a resident in the 100 block of North 18th Avenue reported that an unknown man had come into their house. Lawrence was found hiding in an upstairs closet, Marks said.
Lawrence did not have a valid driver's license, according to police.
Lawrence was arrested on suspicion of eluding, second-degree burglary and driving while his license was revoked. He was transported to the Linn County Jail.
Police said Lawrence was stopped for speeding in the same neighborhood Monday. He was eventually arrested on suspicion of possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving while revoked.
