We need to move past 9/11 reminders

Enough already with the 9/11 nostalgia! Has the media taken any thought as to whether the American people want this yearly ritual of dragging out video footage of the Twin Towers burning and the tiresome personal stories of 9/11? Or has the media decided on their own that Americans should want this continuous run down memory lane?
Why do we need to remember what happened on 9/11 when the media have not allowed the American people to go a single day without making a reference to it?
I agree that 9/11 was a tragic day and the loss of life was great. But we live in a country where more than 30,000 people die from handgun violence each year. These individual deaths were also caused by terrorists who used fear and violence to manipulate their victims and their communities. They may not have been killed by Muslim extremists but their loss is no less that than those who died on 9/11. However, these communities have learned to go on despite the violence.
Can the media stop treating the American people like we're all in an AA meeting and need to repeatedly rehash 9/11? Bad things happen but it's time to move on.
