Chew on This: Five Cedar Rapids and Iowa City-area breweries offering beer to go

In normal times, Chew on This focuses on restaurant openings and closings. These are not normal times, with restaurants ordered to switch to carryout, curbside and delivery. We know these businesses still need support from the community to survive, so each week we are going to highlight five businesses.

These are just a few examples of the many, many places offering these options — please look up your favorite restaurants on Facebook or give them a call to find out what they're offering.

If you don't want to leave the house, delivery services like Chomp, GrubHub and MyTownToGo are currently offering special prices or waiving delivery fees.

This week, we're highlighting breweries, to help you find the perfect place to get a beer for the Socially Distant Beer Festival, highlighted on the cover of this section. Find more about Iowa Brewing Company's offerings in that story as well.

Big Grove Brewery

Customers can place a drive-through, presale order for beers along with burgers, veggie burgers and fries, for pickup in Iowa City and Solon from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. Orders will be accepted until 8 p.m. Friday. They also have family-style meals and a la carte items from their regular menu available to go at both locations.

Lion Bridge Brewing Company

They are offering food with daily specials and beers — in cans or growlers — for delivery and curbside pickup 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday to Sunday.

Thew Brewing Company

Beer is available to go for pickup in the tap room or curbside, from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday to Friday and noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Check their Facebook page for special add-on offers like Kittd play sets.

Backpocket Brewing

They have food and beers in cans or growlers available to go or by delivery, with a $25 minimum order for delivery.

Millstream Brewing Company

835 48th Ave., Amana; (319) 622-3672, millstreambrewing.com

While the taproom and sister restaurant the Brau Haus are closed, call ahead to get a growler or six-pack of beer to go, Monday to Friday.
