Curtis J. Amelon was born March 24, 1949, in Iowa City, the son of Earl and Letha Amelon. He graduated from Clear Creek High School in 1967, and later from the University of Iowa with his bachelor's degree in civil engineering. He moved to Kansas City in 1971 and worked for Black and Veatch Engineering Firm. In 1973, he was transferred to South Carolina to work on a project there for a couple of years. In 1975, he moved back to Iowa where he joined the Amelon Construction Company. He purchased his acreage with his home in 1978 where every year he planted two acres of food to feed his deer and turkeys! Curt loved the outdoors, skiing in the Colorado Mountains, fly fishing in Wyoming and Montana, fishing in Alaska and Canada and most recently his trip to Africa; simply an outdoors kind of guy, who will be dearly missed by his family, his faithful dog, Annie and many friends.
His family includes his siblings, Carol Conyers of Davenport, Duane Amelon (Joyce) of Oxford, Joan Collins of Marshfield, Mo., and Dean Amelon (Carolyn) of Iowa City; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers-in-law.
Curt's family want to express their sincere thanks for all the support during Curt's battle with cancer.
