President, Congress vs. citizens, horses
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Dec. 4, 2011 1:47 pm
Congress and the president did something the vast majority of Americans oppose. The president signed an omnibus spending bill approved by Congress that makes it legal to slaughter horses in the United States. Polls show more than 70 percent of Americans oppose horse slaughter and few, if any, eat horse meat.
In 2008, the president pledged to keep the ban on horse slaughter permanent, another promise to voters which he reneged on. Horses will be cut into pieces. Is this a decision he can live with? If so, he is not representing the majority of Americans, and should look for other employment!
