Letter: Drilling for oil is hurting our environment

Mother Nature has suffered severely because of oil drilling in the Arctic Sea and in the Gulf of Mexico. Yet, President Donald Trump wants to do more drilling in the Arctic Circle.
These are some of the big spills that have fouled huge bodies of water and shoreline: Gulf of Mexico on Earth Day 2010, 4.9 million gallons of oil were dumped into the Gulf of Mexico; the Exxon Valdez spilled 11 million gallons into the Arctic Sea in 1989; and the Ixtoc Spill in offshore Mexico fouled about 1,300 miles of shoreline from Texas to California.
Knowing this, why should President Trump want to drill for oil in northernmost Alaska? Mother Nature has suffered enough from these events. What kind of world do we want to leave for those coming behind us?
