Nothing limiting issue of casino licenses

A letter suggests that it's the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission's duty to determine when Iowa's gambling has reached saturation (“Commission's duty to determine saturation,” March 6 by Ed Faber).
What the writer neglected to mention is that there is no moratorium in place prohibiting the commission from granting new licenses. It is up to the Legislature and the governor to determine when there is enough gambling in Iowa. The commission still has the green light to determine who gets a license and where, based on certain administrative rules and criteria.
The studies are merely a formality within that criteria. The state hasn't closed the door to additional revenue from new licenses.
