Anger better directed at the Legislature
N/A
Dec. 4, 2010 11:53 pm
In response to the Bruce Collins letter of Dec 1, “We voted out justices, voted in justice”: Yes, our democratic system worked. The majority of voting citizens voted out the justices.
But let's not get carried away about “affronting the norms of the citizens of Iowa.” They may have affronted your norms, but my norms say that they acted correctly.
Your ire might be better directed at the Legislature, which ducked the issue and left it to the court to interpret the Constitution to answer the question.
Of course, if the Legislature had done its job, then we would have had an open, public discussion where everyone would see and hear what is going on, and then we would truly know what the “norm” is.
