$13.7 million to fund state highway projects

DES MOINES - Eleven local highway infrastructure projects worth nearly $13.7 million have been let by the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT), according to Gov. Chet Culver's Office.
Ten projects are funded in total or part through the federal stimulus law. Acceptance of the low-bid proposals and awarding of contracts are contingent upon final approval.
In addition, the first I-JOBS project under the Bridge Safety Fund was chosen. A $674,550 bid from Peterson Contractors Inc. of Reinbeck was accepted to replace a bridge on U.S. 57 in Black Hawk County over a creek less than a mile east of the Grundy County line.
Iowa will receive approximately $358 million in stimulus money for state and local road, bridge, trail and freight rail projects. I-JOBS will provide $115 million for state transportation projects.
Combined with regular state and federal highway funds and carry-over work from the 2008 construction season, Iowa will set a record for highway and bridge spending this construction season.
Below are the 10 projects funded at least in part with stimulus money and the contractors providing the work:
Cedar Rapids
$3.2 million for concrete pavement with asphalt resurfacing for Iowa 100 from Twixt Town Road to Commerce Way and Iowa 922 from 40th Street to Tama Street.

$2.7 million for concrete pavement replacement for County Road K-22 from Woodbury County line north to County Road C-60.
Cedar Valley Corp., Waterloo.
Johnson County
$1.8 million for concrete pavement grading/replacement for Iowa 965 (120th Street northwest to Linn County line).
Concrete Foundations Inc., New Hampton.
$1.8 million for concrete pavement overlay (unbonded) for Oak Crest Hill Road from south city limits of Hills to the Washington County line.
Metro Pavers Inc., Iowa City.
Clinton
$815,050 for concrete pavement grading/replacement for 19th Avenue (Mill Creek Parkway to Springdale Drive, Phase 1)
Wicks Construction Inc., Decorah.
Carroll
$808,257 for asphalt resurfacing of North Clark Street (Anthony Street to East Seventh Street).
OMG d/b/a Tri-State Paving, Estherville.
Polk County
$586,698 for concrete pavement widening for U.S. 6 (U.S. 6 and NW 111th Street).
Concrete Technologies Inc., Urbandale, IA
Council Bluffs
$492,346 for transverse joint repair for South 35th Street (Nebraska Avenue to 23rd Street).

$433,000 for asphalt sidewalk/trail around the east side of the Grundy County Lake and from the campground to the Grundy County Lake trail.
