The International Downtown Association has given Cedar Rapids its Downtown Achievement Award of Distinction for the city's Phase 1 River Corridor Redevelopment Plan and Phase 2 Neighborhood Planning Process.
The award recognized the planning process for being a partnership among multiple city departments, the City Council and agencies such as the Army Corps of Engineers, FEMA, the Downtown District, Chamber of Commerce and Linn County.
A multidisciplinary consultant team lead by Sasaki Associates included experts such as urban planners, urban designers, landscape architects, hydrologists, transportation engineers and other specialists.
The award was given at the association's annual conference in Milwaukee Sept. 11-15.
