To the editor:
Our parents, as well as their parents and grandparents, cared deeply for our city. With fewer resources than most of us today enjoy, they bought land for parks, created community centers, built schools and libraries. Their sacrifices have left us with a precious legacy.
On Nov. 3, Cedar Rapids voters are being asked to support the operation of our two libraries. Our libraries are more than repositories for books. They are truly community centers. Even those of us who purchase e-books or stream music and videos from the Internet are served by the Cedar Rapids libraries. Each month dozens of clubs and civic organizations use the libraries' meeting rooms. Educating our young people, providing print and media, as well as Internet access, for our citizens, and serving as town halls for the community are no less important now than in the past. Please approve the library levy.
