Hawkeyes get 20th football recruit

Jan. 26, 2010 7:22 pm
Several Web sites are reporting the University of Iowa football team has received a verbal commitment from running back-defensive back Anthony Hitchens - a 6-foot-1, 200-pounder from Lorain, Ohio and Clearview High School.
Hitchens is expected to play safety at Iowa. He had other offers from Akron, Eastern Michigan and Kansas, prior to Mark Mangino's departure.
"They started recruiting me real hard and then they slowed down some and I was getting real nervous and thinking I might not have a scholarship there," Hitchens told the Iowa City Press-Citizen. "Eventually, something happened with a safety transferring and it opened up a spot for me."
That would be
David Cato, whom Iowa announced last week was transferring to another school. Hitchens is Iowa's 20th known commitment for next season.
