Letters: Casino owners are the real winners

Well, the casino battle is back on. I see there are some business people who are bound and determined to have a casino in Cedar Rapids. I wish them well.
People need to remember what a casino really is. It is a business that offers games of chance. The games are set up so that the odds are against the gambler. Basically what a gambler does is give the casino their hard earned money in hopes that they get some in return. Some gamblers do get more than they spend, but they are a very small number. The real winners are the casino owners. They smile all the way to the bank.
I do hope the estimate of money to be generated by a casino is correct. It will mean the city gets more money so that they don't have to keep raising my property taxes year after year. So, to all you gamblers, if the city gets a casino, please support it and gamble as much as you can. Maybe, just maybe, the city will use some of your losses to repave my street without having me pay for it.
