U.S. Marshals of the Northern District of Iowa participated with 21 other states in Operation Trick or Treat to arrest non-compliant and fugitive sex offenders. During the Iowa operations, they conducted 61 compliance checks and arrested 6 people. Overall, the national operation netted 331 arrests.

A Cedar Rapids man who attempted to solicit sex from a 14-year-old boy, who was actually an undercover police officer targeting child predators online, pleaded guilty Thursday. He faces up to 14 years in prison. He was one of seven arrested in the police sting.

The Linn County Sheriff’s Office changed its policy in November to say homeless sex offenders must check in every five days. In February, following the court ruling, Linn County started registering homeless sex offenders like anyone else on the registry.
