Branstad names Linn-Mar chief to Board of Regents

Linn-Mar Superintendent Katie Mulholland has been named to the Iowa Board of Regents by Gov. Terry Branstad.
The governor also appointed Feb. 25 that Bruce Rastetter and Nicole Carroll to the nine-member board that oversees Iowa's three regents universities - University of Iowa, Iowa State University, University of Northern Iowa - and the Iowa School for the Deaf and the Iowa Braille and Sight Saving School.
Regents serve staggered six-year terms.
“Katie Mulholland will strengthen the board for years to come,” said Branstad. “I believe that Katie Mulholland's perspective as a career educator and active citizen will bring a unique perspective to the Board of Regents.”
Mulholland holds bachelor's, master's and doctorate degrees from UNI. She and her husband, Ed, reside in Marion. They have four grown children.
Rastetter, who holds a bachelor's degree from UI and is CEO of Hawkeye Energy Holdings, LLC. He lives at Hubbard.
Branstad said Rastetter's knowledge as a CEO in the private sector “will be an asset to the board as he works to create strategic plans, monitor progress and approve the budgets of the Regents institutions.”
Carroll, a native of Carroll, holds a bachelor of science from ISU and a law degree from UI. She and her husband, John, have four children, all graduates of ISU.
“Nicole's legal training, experience as president of the Carroll Community School District, along with her rural Iowa background, will serve her well in her new endeavor,” Branstad said.
Rastetter, Mulholland and Carroll will serve six-year terms beginning May 1 and run through April 30, 2017. Their names have been submitted for Senate confirmation by Branstad.
