Letter: Hinzman is best choice for mayor

It is my pleasure to write this letter in support of Gary Hinzman for mayor of Cedar Rapids.

I have known him for over 25 years as a city leader and as a friend. His background in law enforcement, police chief, and as 6th District criminal justice director have given him broad expertise and knowledge of the social and economic bases, as well as needs, within Cedar Rapids. He has been recognized nationally as a progressive, empathetic leader, and will use this knowledge to provide a continued steady, progressive path of city development.

I have had the opportunity to get to know Hinzman and his family (especially his wife, Linda), as our children attended Jefferson High School together. We attended football games, band practices, show choir and drama performances for years, and one gets to know people very well in that time.

He is honest, dependable, smart, and trustworthy - as is all of his family.

I support him because I trust him to get all the details of an issue, weigh them objectively, and make the best decision possible for the long-term future of our community.
