Blum isn’t meeting First District needs

To the editor:
Regarding Rod Blum's April 24 guest column 'My first 90 days in Congress”:
It appears that Blum in 90 days has forgotten about helping to 'restore our country on behalf of all Iowans in the First District.” Every item that he appears to be working on is in regard to what Congressional pay and perks should be. That's easy for someone in the top 1 percent to focus on. Unfortunately, he neglects to mention what if anything he's doing for the working middle class or those 'Americans still struggling to make ends meet.”
We need action on improving the pay and lives of working Iowans, such as increasing the minimum wage, affordable health care, assistance on college tuition and equal pay for women. I'd rather see support and action for bolstering the 'wages of average Americans” instead of his proposal for 'pay cuts” for federal workers if average wages were to fall.
Let's look for ways to improve everyone's life instead of making more people suffer. I suspect that banning first-class flights and long-term luxury car leases for members of Congress won't offset the tax impact of eliminating the estate tax. Blum's focus doesn't seem to be on what the First District needs, but instead of what he personally doesn't need. Maybe his next 90 days will be focused on 'the hard working folks in Eastern Iowa.” By the way, Mr. Blum, what are the term limits you want? Will you and Steve King be voluntarily sticking to them?
