Iowa adds 106 virus cases, four deaths Thursday

Iowa added 106 new COVID-19 cases and four new, confirmed deaths Thursday.

The new numbers bring the state’s totals to 371,723 cases and 6,065 deaths, according to Iowa Department of Public Health data.

The state’s seven-day average for cases is 84, the lowest since 79 on April 7, 2020. The seven-day average for deaths is three.

Vaccinations

As of Thursday afternoon 1,317,757 Iowans, or 41.77 percent of the state’s population, have been fully vaccinated, according to IDPH data.

The total number of people vaccinated within the state, including non-Iowans, is 1,370,436.

In Linn County, 106,554 people, or 47 percent of the county population, have been fully vaccinated.

That number in Johnson County is 79,709, or 52.74 percent of the county population.

New cases

Locally, Linn County added seven cases for a total of 21,086. The county’s seven-day average is seven.

Johnson County added three cases for a total of 14,576 and a seven-day average of three.

Of the new cases, 18 were for children up to age 17, bringing the total in that category to 44,577.

Confirmed deaths

Of Thursday’s confirmed deaths, three were people between 61 and 80 years old and one was between 41 and 60.

One death took place in March. The others were in May.

Des Moines, Greene, Mills and Pottawattamie counties each reported one death.

Hospitalizations

Across the state, COVID-19 hospitalizations fell from 95 to 92 in the 24-hour period ending Thursday morning. The number is the lowest since 91 on April 5, 2020.

Intensive care patients fell from 21 to 18, the lowest since the data was first released on March 31, 2020. Patients on ventilators inched up from 10 to 11.

Long-term care facilities

Iowa’s long-term care facility outbreak numbers were the same Thursday as they were Wednesday, with three facilities experiencing outbreaks and 20 people in those facilities being positive for COVID-19.
