Vote for Travis Weipert for change in auditor
The Gazette Opinion Staff
May. 14, 2012 1:39 pm
Johnson County Auditor Tom Slockett has overseen frequent staff turnover in several positions over the past decade. There is documentation of a hostile work environment and an ongoing ethics investigation. If that isn't enough to give you pause, I don't know what is.
As a government employee, union member and human being, I can't imagine an environment where worker's morale is so low and turnover of top positions so high. I wouldn't last a month in a work environment so hostile. I believe the well-documented series of missteps from this office in recent years can be directly attributed to high election staff turnover. Time and money for advertising and training and a poorer service to the tax payers.
Just because Slockett pushed the envelope on early voting 20 years ago, doesn't mean he is a good manager today.
I've gotten to know Travis Weipert. He has a rich history in accounting and auditing, is dedicated to early voting but also cares about good working conditions, efficient government and collaboration with other county offices. I hope you'll join me in voting for Travis on or before the June 5 primary.
