Support local merchants

I have taken a stand I hope others might follow. Not only will I shop locally, I will trade with the merchants who do not support China by abandoning American-made products. This sometimes has been difficult, but don't we all have family or neighbors who have lost jobs due to the imports from China?
May I suggest that the local merchants, particularly the antique shops, carry mostly USA items. There is very little “made in China” wares in these shops, those usually made in years past.
And further, how about some useful items for Christmas gifts from merchants like Croissant du Jour, the Collins Road Theatre. When I think of the succulent repast offered at Croissant du Jour, my mouth waters. Do you know of another movie theater that gives so much back to the community in the way of free movies for the children during every holiday and summer break? Why not a lovely gift certificate of exquisite food and then a movie that does not require mortgaging your home to attend?
Missing a piece of your favorite crystal or cookware or an unusual collectible? They are around here in the many antique shops of Marion and Cedar Rapids. Lasting toys, lasting memories.
So join me in supporting local merchants and stop support of China by boycotting their goods. I so remember the tainted pet food, baby formula and let's not forget the lead-based paint used on children's toys.
