The state Supreme Court has declined to review Michelle Kehoe's conviction for the 2008 murder of her two-year-old son and attempted murder of her seven-year-old. The decision means Kehoe will serve a life sentence.
The court denied without comment Kehoe's appeal of her conviction on charges of first-degree murder, attempted murder and child endangerment causing serious injury. The state appeals court rejected her appeal in July.
Kehoe, 38, of Coralville, drove her sons, Seth, 2, and Sean, 7, to a remote area near Littleton in Buchanan County and slashed their throats with a hunting knife on Oct. 26, 2008. Seth died, but Sean survived and told police what had happened.
Kehoe pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity, but was found to have the mental capacity to know right from wrong at the time of the crime. In her appeal she claimed her counsel was ineffective.
