Fire destroys mobile home in Johnson County
Feb. 28, 2012 7:10 pm
IOWA CITY, IA - A candle is believed to have started a fire that destroyed a Johnson County mobile home Tuesday night.
Fire crews from Hills, Lone Tree and Riverside were called to the Regency Mobile Home Park shortly before 7 p.m. When they arrived the mobile home was fully engulfed in flames, witnesses said.
Hills Fire Chief Jim Malmberg said the fire was likely a result of a candle that tipped over. All four residents of the mobile home on Cherokee Trail escaped safely, Malmberg said.
Fire crews were able to contain the blaze within a half-hour, preventing it from spreading to other nearby units.
"We had good crew tonight," Malmberg said.
The Red Cross has been contacted to help the family. Malmberg said the mobile home is a "complete loss."
