Supporting LOST is not a Homer
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Jul. 31, 2013 12:40 pm
Last I heard was the State of Iowa has an $800 million surplus. Why don't the mayors of Cedar Rapids, Marion, Hiawatha, Fairfax and Robins go to Des Moines and demand a chunk of that money to fix infrastructure (such as streets) rather than supporting an extension of the local-option sales tax for another 10 years?
Why don't they act as advocates for the people of these communities rather than supporting another “shake down” of the citizenry? Isn't that $800 million the people's money after all?
By the way, The Gazette Editorial Board's supporting (the mayor's unified call) for an extension of LOST is not a “Homer” (July 22).
