Jean was born July 7, 1931, in Iowa City, the daughter of Ralph and Florence (Humphrey) Lenz. She graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1949 and later graduated from the Mercy School of Nursing in 1952. On Oct. 20 of that same year, Jean married Edward J. Mougin at St. Mary's Church in Iowa City. She worked as a registered nurse at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City for 26 years, retiring in 1993.
She took great pleasure in making cakes for all special occasions. She enjoyed going to Iowa Women's basketball games with family members and was an avid Hawkeye fan. Putting puzzles together was her relaxation but getting together with friends to play cards made her happy. But her greatest pleasure was spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Jean was a member of St. Mary's Church. Altar & Rosary Society, Catholic Order of Foresters and Iowa City Eagle's Auxiliary. Jean enjoyed being a Red Hat Lady and volunteering at Mercy Hospital, taking special enjoyment in making Christmas angels with friends for charity.
Survivors include her husband, Ed; her children, Carole Mougin of Des Moines, Jim Mougin of Oxford, Rick Mougin of Windsor, Colo., and Dan Mougin of Oxford; seven grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Gary (Bert) Lenz of Louisiana, Mo., Larry (Rose) Lenz of Colorado Springs, Colo., Tom (Erin) Lenz of Louisburg, Kan., Terry (Cathy) Lenz of Centralia, Mo., and Bill (Pauline) Lenz of Castle Rock, Colo.; and many nieces and nephews.
Jean was preceded in death her parents; a sister Judith; and a brother, Ralph “Bud” Lenz.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the loving and caring staff at Mercy Hospital and also to Dr. Hamed Tewfik and staff at the Iowa City Cancer Treatment Center.
