Welcome God back to our city
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Nov. 17, 2013 12:25 pm
I was shocked by The Gazette's Oct. 4 article “Believing in the Bible.” In the article, Cedar Rapids was ranked 9th out of 10 U.S. cities being the least Bible minded. We shared this spot with Buffalo, N.Y.; Las Vegas; and New York City. The Barna Research Group, which studies religious trends, found 18 percent, which is fewer than 1 person in 5, reading and believing the Bible.
Rise up, Cedar Rapidians, there has to be a mistake. Did we all miss this survey? Were we out of town? How can a small Midwest city rank up there with Las Vegas? Where are our beliefs, our hope, our future? Have we actually pushed our God out of this town? Do we really feel he is not needed? No wonder we are such a lost city, with so many other cities prospering around us. Where is God's blessing on our city? Well, God does not bless where he is not welcome.
This article is a disgrace to us and to God. We need to welcome God back to our city. Pick up your Bibles, help build this city, this nation. Wake up, Cedar Rapids, let your voices be heard all you Bible thumping, pew jumping, devil-dumping believers, let the Barna report know Cedar Rapidians love the Lord. We are Bible believers who believe in God and each other.
