CR needs more traffic cameras

The Feb. 4 editorial (“Senators: Ban traffic cameras”) is counteract to the laws.
Sen. Brad Zaun's son allegedly did wrong by speeding and breaking the law. If the son used the car with the senator's OK, then there should be no excuse against the citation. If my son would have done this, he would not only have to answer to the judge, but also to me.
If we lose the cameras, some senators are saying, go ahead, break the laws, there is a small chance of being caught. Go through the stop light and kill someone.
If the cameras save one life, they have done what they were put up for - safety. The senators want data. What is the data they have besides numerous complaints from residents in the district and Cedar Rapids? We want numbers. Are the only complaints from law breakers or people who would condone breaking the law?
The only thing wrong about cameras is that they should be moved around and the public not told where they are put. We also need more of them.
