Funding preschool better for society as a whole

It is depressing to hear the infantile discourse surrounding preschool funding in Iowa. In this day and age, in a state that prides itself on education, one might think that greater issues of society would be common practice. Instead, if people do not have children, they think they should get a pass on appropriations for scholastic endeavors.
Such crude logic would relieve the rest of us for paying for the roads in front of their house, roads we don't use, or for repair of their water lines or electricity problems.
Unbeknown to the immediate detractors, the 4-year-olds in question have parents and both of these parents may work for a living. If a second working parent has to work to pay for day care, they will not be earning very much, if anything. Private child care is too expensive when tackled independently rather than as a society. We lose valuable contributors to the work force and encourage more dependence on the welfare system.
Our temporary state government has the easiest job in the world: cut funds for social programs to prove airy, elusive points. There is no evidence of vision or purpose.
