First-Round Opponent: Boyden-Hull (23-2), 2 p.m. Monday
Tournament History: 12th appearance, second in row. Won championship in 1992. Also has four second-place finishes and one fourth.
Team Synopsis: Won 17 of last 18 games, avenging only loss in that span by beating Lone Tree in district final, 59-35. Balanced offensive attack with five players scoring in double figures: junior guard Chance Miller (13.4 ppg), senior forward Johnny Lackender (12.3 ppg), junior guard Cameron Gingerich (11.7 ppg), junior guard Peyton Thompson (11.3 ppg) and senior center Brian Hagedorn (10.8 ppg). Lost in last year's state quarterfinals to Guthrie Center, 53-49.

Tournament History: First appearance.
Team Synopsis: Record-setting season included first Big East Conference championship (shared with Northeast Goose Lake) and first conference title of any kind since 1975. Team begins and ends with play of senior point guard Ben Knake. He averages 20.2 points per game, taking 235 more shots than any other Lion. Also leads team in assists (123), steals (111) and blocked shots (21). Several members of team were part of Lisbon's Class A state championship football team. Senior Conner Smock qualified for state cross-country meet four times, finishing second twice.

Tournament History: Fourth appearance, first since 1997. Third-place finish in 1993, fourth place in 1994 with former Kansas Jayhawk and NBA player Raef LaFrentz.
Team Synopsis: Highest-ranked team to survive 2A district and substate play at No. 5. Bulldogs have won 20 straight after suffering their only loss, Dec. 10, to 3A Decorah, 69-62. Swept through the Upper Iowa Conference. Junior guard C.J. Mason leads team in scoring at 16.6 points per game, making 44 percent of his 3-point attempts. Forward Brandon Hertrampf averages 11.7 points and is MFL's leading rebounder. Starting guard Dalton Dettbarn is the son of head coach Eric Dettbarn, who won his 300th career game earlier this season in his 25th year at MFL.

Tournament History: Fourth appearance, first since 2003. Won state title in 1973.
Team Synopsis: Undersized team with four starters 6-foot-1 or shorter. Tied with 3A state tourney entrant Western Dubuque for Wamac Conference East Division championship. Lost three of four games when leading scorer Jake Timm (14.1 ppg) was out recovering from an appendectomy. He is the son of head coach Ed Timm, who was head coach at Cornell College prior to taking Mount Vernon job. Other double-figure scorers are senior guards Jack Keleher (14.0 ppg) and Micah Russell (11.3 ppg). Ranked sixth in final AP poll.

First-Round Opponent: Mount Vernon (20-4), 8:15 p.m., Monday
Tournament History: Made it in 2000 and was a fourth-place finisher last season. District towns Clarence (1953) and Lowden (1958, 2nd in 1959) also were qualifiers.
Team Synopsis: No. 9 Knights are led by 6-foot-6 senior swingman Jordan Hay, NC's all-time leading scorer and a returning first-team all-stater. He averages 23.1 points and 9.4 rebounds per game. Hay likely is headed to a Division II college to continue his hoops career. Seth Bendixen and Kyle Jackson are 3-point threats who have taken a combined 238 treys. Knights won Cedar Valley Conference but lost to Mount Vernon in early December, 59-50.

First-Round Opponent: Davenport Assumption (21-3), 6:35 p.m., Tuesday
Tournament History: Third appearance, second in three years. Also won state championship in 2001.
Team Synopsis: Fifth-ranked Bobcats have won 16 in a row entering state tournament. Tied with 2A qualifier Mount Vernon for Wamac Conference's East Division title. MV gave Bobcats one loss, Maquoketa the other. Likes to play quick offensively, led by junior guard T.J. Lake (17.4 ppg). Point guard Logan Pitz had 27 points in WD's substate final win over Vinton-Shellsburg. Inside presence is provided by senior forward Cameron James (13.0 ppg, 6.9 rebounds per game).

First-Round Opponent: Ankeny (23-0), 3:30 p.m., Wednesday
Tournament History: Tenth appearance, third in row. Won state championship in 1967, placed second in 1964 and third in 1996.
Team Synopsis: Class 4A's Cinderella. Won first seven games but closed regular season 6-8. Stunned third-ranked Cedar Falls in overtime, 67-65, on guard Taylor Olson's buzzer-beater in substate final. Olson, a Division I recruit, is Jeff's leading scorer (18.7 ppg), rebounder, assists man and steals man. Forward Alec Saunders (9.0 ppg) missed the end of the regular season with an ankle injury but returned for postseason. Undersized team but gritty.

Record (Seed): 23-0 (2)
First-Round Opponent: Waukee (17-6), 8:15 p.m., Wednesday
Tournament History: 12th appearance, including fourth-place finish last season. Trojans have won three state championships (1977, 1998 and 2000), finished second once, third once and fourth twice.
Team Synopsis: Second-ranked Trojans are led by superb underclass trio of forward Jeremy Morgan (14.7 ppg) and guards Dondre Alexander (15.7 ppg) and Wyatt Lohaus (12.0). Interior is taken care of by 6-foot-6 senior Jake Gylten (8.0 ppg) and 6-5 junior Myzeah Batie-Gaddy (6.3 ppg, team-leading 4.8 rebounds). Shouldn't be rattled considering experience from last season. Closest games were one-point wins over Cedar Rapids Jefferson and Cedar Rapids Kennedy.

First-Round Opponent: Dubuque Senior (18-5), 6:35 p.m., Wednesday
Tournament History: Impeccable. 11th trip, record ninth in a row. Has never lost a quarterfinal game. Winner of four state titles, including last season.
Team Synopsis: Took an extraordinary comeback from seven points down in final 20 seconds of regulation to beat Cedar Rapids Kennedy in double overtime in substate final. Point guard Marcus Paige is a North Carolina signee who leads the state in scoring at 28.4 points per game. Had school-record 49 in Kennedy victory. Needs 60 points to become Metro's all-time leading scorer. Next leading scorer is forward Matt Lassen, an Albany (N.Y.) commit who missed most of the season with a severe concussion. Linn-Mar comes in ranked No. 5. Beat quarterfinal opponent Dubuque Senior in regular season, 62-55.
