Thank a veteran on the day that honors them

The Iowa City American Legion Auxiliary invites all citizens to join them in recognizing the contributions and sacrifices of our veterans and of those who are protecting our country through military service.
Veterans Day, Nov. 11, was formerly observed as Armistice Day in commemoration of the signing of the Armistice ending World War I. Nov. 11 officially became Veterans Day on May 24, 1954, by an act of Congress.
Veterans Day is intended to thank and honor all those who served honorably in the military - in wartime or peacetime. Veterans Day is largely intended to thank living veterans for their contributions to our national security and to underscore the fact that all those who served have sacrificed and done their duty.
Thank a veteran today! Display the American flag to honor this wonderful country that our servicemen have fought to protect.
