Oltmann, Eugene
Eugene Oltmann, 83, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, May 7, 2013, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy. The body will be cremated. There will be no service or visitation. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion.
Eugene Frederick Oltmann was born Jan. 2, 1930, on a farm near Langworthy, the son of John and Elsie (Omnen) Oltmann. He graduated from Monticello High School in 1948, and served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1951 to 1953. In 1958, Gene and Myra Schoenbeck were married. For 30 years, he hauled gas and diesel fuel in the Monticello area. Gene liked to spend time with his family, ride the bike trails in Iowa and neighboring states, watch the Cubs at Wrigley Field and read detective stories. He will be greatly missed by those whom he loved.
Gene is survived by his wife; daughters, Carla Oltmann and Risa Oltmann, both of Marion; and granddaughter, Muriel Oltmann of Coralville.
Also surviving are two sisters, Irma (Mark) Leonard and Eleanor (Lloyd) Mueller, both of Monticello; and sister-in-law, Shirley Oltmann of Anamosa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Audrey (Walter) Reiter; and brothers, Marvin (Mabel) and Raymond Oltmann.
Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
The family wishes to thank the staff at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy.
