Are you searching for an evening of entertainment that's different from sitting on the couch, eating popcorn, watching television that you are fed up with?
After observing an early preview, I've discovered your answer awaits at the Starlighters Theatre in Anamosa. Experience the whole range of emotions by watching “Only Drunks and Children Tell the Truth.” It uses Canadian history of the 1950s and '60s as a background when native Canadian Indian children are legally separated from their parents and become part of a white family. The playwright, Drew Hayden, develops the theme into one of pathos, questioning, turmoil, with the accent on family.
With that background, it may be hard to believe some of the unusual topics of conversation. Not only that, there's a chuckle as the story is woven about the difference in the life and goals of the two sisters. You can draw your own conclusions.
The Starlighters presentation continues this weekend. For more information or reservations, call (319) 462-4793, or go online at www.starlighters.org.
