LUMIR "LUM" HOUSER
Scottsdale, Ariz.
Lumir "Lum" Patrick Houser died peacefully surrounded by loved ones on May 19, 2021, in Scottsdale, Ariz., at the age of 91.
Lum was born on Oct. 17, 1929, to Frank and Rosemary (Buchtela) Houser near Amana, Iowa. Lum attended high school in Newhall, Iowa. After serving honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, he married Patricia Auten in Newhall on Oct. 24, 1953. Lum attended Rankin Technical College in St. Louis, Mo., studying electrical design, prior to founding Houser Bros. Plumbing Heating & Electric with his brother Otto in Newhall. Their brother Leonard joined them in 1961. In 1969, Lum and his family relocated to Scottsdale, Ariz., where he sold real estate for Ed Thirkhill Realty for the first 2 years. He then got back into the contracing business building low income homes on the West Side of Phoenix. Eventually, he would start Houser Development Corp., building and remodeling residentual and commercial projects until his retirement. For over 50 years, Lum was an active member of American Legion Post 44 in Scottsdale.
Lum will be greatly missed by his children, Jim (Tammy), Jane Stimbert (Mike), Terri Micale (Nick) and Susie Romo (Ron); his seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; his sister, Rita Sebastian; many nieces and nephews; and special companion, Rosa Masson.
Lum was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Pat; brothers, Otto, Francis and Leonard; and sister, Rosemary Maresh.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. June 4, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 7655 E. Main Street, in Scottsdale with interment at Paradise Memorial Gardens.
