Margret Mae Thompson, 74, of Marion, Iowa, formerly of Missouri and Nebraska, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, May 26, 2021, at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, Minn. A graveside service will be held at noon on Tuesday, June 1, at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City, Iowa, with Pastor Mark McCoy officiating. Facial masks are optional at your discretion. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Marion is assisting the family.
Margret was born on July 20, 1946, in Cheyenne, Wyo., the daughter of Luther and Beulah (Gates) Bates. On April 2, 1966, she was united in marriage to Larry Thompson. To this union, two sons were born, Mark and Kurt. Margret actively attended Antioch Christian Church in Marion. She was a devoted and beloved wife, mother, and grandmother. Margret will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Margret is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband of 55 years, Larry Thompson of Marion; two sons, Mark (Tami) Thompson of Marion and Kurt Thompson of Lakeville, Minn.; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Barbara McClellen of Omaha, Neb., and Patricia (Norman) Crom of Tabor, Iowa; pet dog, Paisley; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Beulah Bates; one daughter-in-law, Lorie Thompson; and one brother-in-law, Lane McClellen.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Margret's memory may be made to Antioch Christian Church in Marion, Iowa, or Samaritan's Purse in Boone, N.C.
