Gloria Kay Tilson, 70, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, May 28, 2021, at her home after a brave 7-plus year journey with ovarian cancer. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick Catholic Church by the Rev. Ivan Nienhaus. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery. A Vigil Service will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Teahen Funeral Home. Those not attending the vigil service may visit with the family from 4:30 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Gloria is survived by her husband, Mike; daughter, Shannon (Don) Bear of Cedar Rapids; two sons, Matthew (Cherie) Tilson of Cedar Rapids and Adam Tilson of Denver, Colo.; three grandchildren, Karle Tilson, Cole Smith and Lily Tilson; sister, Debra Trenkamp of Marion; brother, Terry Slickty; two brothers-in-law, Jack Drafahl and Ed Stephenson; sister-in-law, Pat (Dave) LaRonde, all of Cedar Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.
Gloria was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Joyce Stephenson and Joan Drafahl.
Gloria was born May 16, 1951, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Richard and Genevieve Lutz Slickty. She graduated from Kennedy High School in 1969. Gloria married Mike Tilson on May 31, 1975, at St. Matthew Catholic Church. She was a sales associate at her family owned paint store French Paint for many years retiring in 2014.
Gloria enjoyed playing cards, keeping a clean house, and shopping. She was an avid reader and a wonderful cook. Gloria was very involved with her family, especially attending her children and grandchildren's activities. She loved spending time with her family and friends and will be missed dearly by them.
Memorials may be directed to St. Patrick Catholic Church, the Hospice of Mercy or the Anna Purna Ghosh Foundation.
