A question for the spelling czar
The Gazette Opinion Staff

I must have missed the announcement of the appointment of a new czar - the spelling czar.
We have so many czars now it's hard to keep track of them all. What else would explain why most major networks and news outlets now spell bin Laden's first name as Usama instead of the way we have all spelled it for the last 10 years - Osama? How could we all have been wrong for so long?
Personally, I don't care how it is spelled. Just surprised at how long it took to make the “correction.”
But since we now apparently have a spelling czar, maybe we can finally be given the proper guidance on how to spell the last name of Libya's leader. Is it Gadaffi or Gaddafi or Qadiffa or Kadaphi or Qadhafi or …?
