Heaven forbid we offend someone

I read with interest the guest column written by Rev. Tom Capo (“City has many religious groups,” March 17). I must disagree with him.

I think one of the biggest problems we have in the U.S. is the fact that everything we do must be done to accommodate everyone. As he so pointed out, we are a melting pot. Well, that is fine, but also let us have our beliefs. Every time we turn around, we have to accommodate for everyone. We can no longer wish “merry Christmas” in case we offend someone of a different belief; children no longer start their school day off reciting the Pledge of Allegiance; the tablets of the Ten Commandments have been taken down, and the list goes on and on.

Children no longer are brought up with any kind of strong beliefs, be it God, family or country, and that scares me. Instead, I see what damage this train of thought has created. We are becoming a melting pot as Rev. Capo stated, but one where we must all think and do alike - heaven forbid we offend someone.

No government money was spent on putting that image on that fire truck, but now we are going to spend money to remove it. Well, that offends me - what government agency can I file a complaint with about that?
