DeGeeter, Margaret M.
Margaret M.DeGeeter, 93, of Brooklyn, died Sunday, Nov. 22, 2009, at Brooklyn Community Estates following a brief illness. Mass of Christian burial: 10 a.m. Wednesday, St Patrick's Catholic Church, Brooklyn, with Father Brian Shepley officiating. Burial: Calvary Cemetery, Brooklyn. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn, with a Scripture service at 7 p.m. A memorial fund has been established.
She is survived by two sons, Richard and wife Diane, and Roger and wife Shirley, all of Victor; a daughter, Janice Gritsch and husband Robert of Brooklyn; five grandchildren, Jeff Gritsch, Jeremy DeGeeter, Jason Gritsch, Shane DeGeeter and Zach DeGeeter; and five great-grandchildren, Shelby, Jonathan, Ashley, Danica and Avery.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Julian on June 9, 2005; a sister, Dorothy Claeys; and a brother, Achiel Wauters.
Margaret Mary Wauters was born Oct. 22, 1916, in Poweshiek County, Iowa, the daughter of Remi Wauters and Mary LaKose Wauters. She attended the Poweshiek County schools and married Julian Joseph DeGeeter on Feb. 22, 1938, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Brooklyn, Iowa. The couple farmed for many years near Hartwick. They moved to Brooklyn in 1980. Margaret was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Brooklyn and the Altar and rosary Society.
