Injuries from falls is topic of Sept. 22 event

IOWA CITY - University of Iowa Health Care, the Visiting Nurse Association and the Community Foundation of Johnson County hosts its Fall Prevention Awareness Day and Health Fair from noon to 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22, at the Visiting Nurse Association office, 1524 Sycamore St., Iowa City.
The purpose of the event is to help raise awareness about how to prevent fall-related injuries among older adults. The 10th annual national Fall Prevention Awareness Day is Sept. 22 - the first day of fall.
The theme of this year's event is '10 Years Standing Together to Prevent Falls.” Activities include fall prevention tips, blood pressure checks, senior fitness screenings, flu shots for a fee and medication education.
Light refreshments will be served, and attendees can register for door prizes. Parking is free and the building is handicap-accessible.
