Facility residents need protection

I find it absolutely disgusting that Willow Gardens Care Center in Marion was found negligent in the death of resident Kenneth Kennedy on Aug. 3. To learn that he had repeatedly called for help and that the nurse in charge, after being notified, said that Kennedy was “fine” and he was “just coughing” is unbelievable. This nurse should have been fired.
To further find out that the facility was originally fined $30,500, but it was reduced to $19,825 because the facility had cooperated is despicable.
Residents of care facilities and nursing homes need more protection; I urge anyone with a relative or friend in that facility to check on them often. Very, very sad.
