2 cities, 2 directions on plans for riverfronts

How ironic that Coralville's plan for a riverfront recreation park (“Riverfront recreation,” Feb. 29) would be on the same page of The Gazette as the Cedar Rapids proposal to allow Penford to expand its plant along our riverfront (“Corbett wants conditions if Penford buys park”).
The different directions these two cities are headed couldn't be more apparent. Coralville will get a nice park for all living in and around the river. Cedar Rapids gets a larger plant, with potentially more offensive noise, odor and a larger eye sore. Cedar Rapid's reputation is becoming that of a good place to find a job, but you won't want to live there. Sad.
