IOWA CITY -- Salary increases next year for faculty and non-organized professional and scientific staff will be between zero and 4 percent, with an average of 2.5 percent, at the University of Iowa and Iowa State University under a proposal to go before the state Board of Regents next week.
The increases will be based upon performance, competitive market factors and equity issues, officials said in the agenda information released Thursday. The regents meet Wednesday in Iowa City.
At the University of Northern Iowa, a voluntary agreement through collective bargaining was not reached with United Faculty, requiring arbitration. The arbitrator awarded pay increases for UNI faculty of 2.25 percent on July 1, and an additional 1.25 percent increase on Jan. 1, 2013.
Salary increases for non-organized professional and scientific staff at UNI will average 2.89 percent on July 1 and 0.62 percent on June 30, 2013, which is comparable to the increases for UNI United Faculty, officials said.
Pay increases for several large employee groups were determined through collective bargaining. The Board of Regents employs about 6,500 AFSCME-covered staff in blue collar, security, technical and clerical units. The institutions estimate average increases for AFSCME and non-organized merit employees in Fiscal Year 2013 will be 4.7 percent at the UI, 4.34 percent at and 3.9 percent at UNI.
