Alzheimer's disease is the most under recognized public health crisis of the century. Recent studies reveal that 1 in every 3 American seniors will die with Alzheimer's or dementia. A worldwide effort is under way to ?nd treatments that slow or stop the progression of Alzheimer's. Over 30 years of accelerating insight, scientists have identi?ed a range of promising potential targets for intervention. The Alzheimer's Association is committed to sustaining the pace of discovery.
Join the national conversation on Alzheimer's disease and dementia as the Alzheimer's Association hosts a special Advances in Alzheimer's Research seminar. This free community program will provide information on the burden of the disease on individuals, caregivers, government and the nation's health care system. Attendees will learn about Alzheimer's risk factors, revised guidelines for diagnosis and the status of Alzheimer's disease research and phase III clinical trials.

Today, more than 5 million Americans, including 69,000 Iowans, are living with Alzheimer's disease. Alzheimer's is the sixth leading cause of death in America and the only major disease without a way to prevent, cure or even slow its progression. By the year 2025, the number of Iowans with Alzheimer's disease is expected to increase by 18 percent at an annual cost to caregivers of $2.2 billion.
There is no cost to attend this workshop. Registration is required. For more information or to register for the seminar, contact the Alzheimer's Association at 1-800-272-3900 or visit www.alz.org/eci.
