Ban pets from downtown farmers market

Once again we can enjoy the Cedar Rapids downtown farmers market. When shopping the vendor's tables and hanging displays, I am not thinking of dodging leashes and dog fights until I am bumped and tangled. As joint replacement recipients, my husband and I fear getting tangled in a leash and falling or being knocked over by a large dog. (Almost happened July 6.) I spend time looking down for safety and as a result I find I miss seeing some of the vendors.
We saw a dog lift its leg on a vendor's flower display. Yuck!
Young families are able to take their children out in strollers for a lovely walk, but it concerns me that the infants are at the same eye level with most dogs. It would take just a split second for a tragedy to happen with a startled or curious pet.
I am a pet lover and we owned the best dog ever. I am interested in the welfare of the pet, also.
Aren't people afraid of lawsuits involving their pets? I think it is time to ban pets from the downtown market.
