Free help offered on income taxes

CEDAR RAPIDS - People with incomes of $49,000 or less can get free help with their income tax returns Feb. 13 at Coe College.
Trained volunteers from the Central Cedar Rapids Weed and Seed program will assist people at Gage Memorial Union from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Those attending “Super Tax Saturday” also can attend a financial education fair that offers tips on spending and saving a tax refund wisely. The fair will offer door prizes for local businesses. Child care will be available.
Clients should bring the following information with them: picture identification, Social Security card and all W-2, 1099, unemployment, disability and interest forms, plus their bank account information for direct deposit.
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program is authorized by the Internal Revenue Service to perform this service, and all personal information is kept confidential.
Those interested in receiving the free help should schedule an appointment by calling United Way at 211, (319) 739-4211 or toll free 1-(866) 469-2211.
For those who can't attend Super Tax Saturday, VITA centers are open five days a week through April 15 in three Cedar Rapids locations. Those appointments also can be scheduled through United Way's 211 help line.
